Sahib Shihab - Sahib's Jazz Party; Conversations (1963)
Conversations (1963) - with Allan Botschinsky, Ole Molin, Alex Riel, Niels-Henning, Ørsted Pedersen
1. Forty-Seven Blues
2. Charade
3. Conversations I
4. Conversations II
5. Conversations III
He first played alto saxophone professionally for Luther Henderson at age 13 and went on to study at the Boston Conservatory and to play with trumpeter Roy Eldridge. He played lead alto with Fletcher Henderson in the mid forties.
He was one of the first jazz musicians to convert to Islam and changed his name in 1947. During the late 1940s, Shihab played with Thelonious Monk. During this period, he also found time to appear on many recordings by artists including Art Blakey, Kenny Dorham and Benny Golson. The invitation to play with Dizzy Gillespie's big band in the early fifties was of particular significance as it marked Sahib's switch to baritone.
In 1957, Sahib was one of the musicians photographed by Art Kane in his A Great Day in Harlem picture.
In 1959, he toured Europe with Quincy Jones after getting fed up with racial politics in USA and ultimately settled in Scandinavia. He worked for Copenhagen Polytechnic and wrote scores for television, cinema and theatre.
In 1961, he joined The Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band and remained a key figure in the band for the 12 years it ran. He married a Danish lady and raised a family in Europe, although he remained a conscious African-American still sensitive to racial issues.
In the Eurovision Song Contest 1966, Shihab accompanied Lill Lindfors and Svante Thuresson on stage for the Swedish entry Nygammal Vals.
In 1973, Sahib returned to the United States for a three-year hiatus, working as a session man for rock and pop artists and also doing some copywriting for local musicians. He spent his remaining years between New York and Europe and played in a successful partnership with Art Farmer and died in Tennessee.

John Coltrane - Olé Coltrane 1962
Olé Coltrane is the ninth album by jazz musician John Coltrane, released in 1962 on Atlantic Records, catalogue SD 1373. His last album for Atlantic made under his supervision, unlike Coltrane's previous sessions done at their own studio, this was recorded at A&R Studios in New York.
Background
Two days prior to the recording of this album, Coltrane did his inaugural recording session for his new label, Impulse Records, at the new Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. With one further album due his old label Atlantic, he brought in his working quintet along with two participants in the Africa/Brass sessions, Art Davis and Freddie Hubbard. Owing to his concurrent contract with Prestige Records, Dolphy had to be listed on the credits under the pseudonym George Lane.
Coltrane's interest in the music of Spain evident in "Olé," may have been spurred by his ex-employer's Sketches of Spain from the previous year. The soprano saxophone work on themodal jazz vamp "Olé" recalled last year's "My Favorite Things," while the titles for the songs on side two reflect the band's continued interest in African forms as expressed on the May 23Africa/Brass recordings.
On September 19, 2000, Rhino Records reissued Olé Coltrane as part of its Atlantic 50th Anniversary Jazz Gallery series. Included was a single bonus track which had appeared on The Heavyweight Champion: The Complete Atlantic Recordings in 1995.
- John Coltrane — soprano saxophone on "Olé" and "To Her Ladyship; alto saxophone on "To Her Ladyship"; tenor saxophone on "Dahomey Dance" and "Aisha"
- Freddie Hubbard — trumpet
- Eric Dolphy — flute on "Olé" and "To Her Ladyship"; alto saxophone on "Dahomey Dance" and "Aisha"
- McCoy Tyner — piano

Afro-Sambas - Baden/Vinicius - 1966
A vontade.
